The incident occurred at night when the leopard crossed the highway and ended up injured in the roadside drain. Forest staff reached the spot to tranquilize and rescue the animal.
However, the tranquilizer took effect slowly. As the leopard remained active, it suddenly lunged at a home guard, knocking him to the ground and injuring his hand. His colleagues intervened with a stick and managed to stop the attack.
The injured official was taken to a hospital for treatment. The leopard was subsequently netted and secured before being transported to a veterinary facility for treatment of the wounds sustained in the accident.
